ShellSense ("we," "us," "our") provides aquaculture environmental monitoring services. This policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website and services.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address and password. Passwords are hashed and stored securely by our authentication provider (Supabase). We never have access to your plaintext password.

Phone Number

If you opt in to SMS alerts, we collect your phone number. Your phone number is used solely to send salinity alert notifications and verification codes. We verify phone numbers via a one-time SMS code before sending any alert messages.

Sensor and Device Data

We collect environmental data from monitoring devices you register, including salinity levels, water temperature, and water level readings. This data is associated with device identifiers and timestamps.

Mailing List

If you subscribe to our mailing list, we collect your email address for the purpose of sending product updates and aquaculture-related content.

3. How We Use Your Information

• Account management: To authenticate you and provide access to your dashboard and alert settings.
• SMS alerts: To send salinity threshold alerts and recovery notifications to your verified phone number.
• Data display: To show sensor readings, charts, and trends on your dashboard.
• Mailing list: To send occasional product updates (you can unsubscribe at any time).

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate ShellSense:

• Supabase: Database hosting, user authentication, and serverless functions. Data is stored in Supabase's infrastructure. Supabase Privacy Policy
• Twilio: SMS delivery for phone verification codes and salinity alerts. Your phone number is shared with Twilio solely for message delivery. Twilio Privacy Policy
• NOAA CO-OPS: Tide and water level data from public government APIs. No personal data is shared with NOAA.
• The Things Network: LoRa device data is transmitted through TTN's network infrastructure. No personal user data is shared with TTN.

5. Data Retention

Sensor readings are retained indefinitely to support historical trend analysis. Account information is retained as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your profile data, phone number, and device subscriptions are permanently removed. Sensor data associated with shared devices is retained.

6. SMS and Messaging

By providing your phone number and opting in to alerts, you consent to receive SMS messages from ShellSense. Message types include:

• One-time verification codes during phone number setup
• Salinity alert notifications when conditions drop below your set threshold
• Recovery notifications when conditions return to normal

Message frequency depends on environmental conditions. Standard message and data rates may apply. You can stop receiving alerts at any time by removing your phone number from your profile settings or removing the device from your monitored list.

7. Data Security

We implement reasonable security measures including:

• Encrypted connections (HTTPS) for all data transmission
• Row-level security policies restricting data access to authorized users
• Hashed password storage
• Time-limited verification codes

8. Your Rights

You may:

• Access and update your profile information at any time through your account settings
• Remove your phone number to stop SMS alerts
• Unsubscribe from the mailing list
• Request deletion of your account by contacting us

9. Children's Privacy

ShellSense is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
